How to save $600 on paper towels at grocery stores, grocery stores say
Wegmans has announced plans to phase out the use of paper towels in its grocery stores across the country by 2020.
Wegman, the world’s largest grocery chain, said it will also end the use by the end of 2021.
Wegermans customers will be able to pick up paper towels for free in store, but the company says it is also introducing an online ordering feature that will allow customers to pay for paper towels online.
Wegmans, which has more than $20 billion in annual revenue, will also offer customers a free gift card that can be used for all kinds of grocery purchases at its stores.
The company said customers can save $400 on paper towel purchases at the grocery store.
The company said it has “seen tremendous results in the paper towel market over the past few years” and is working on plans to “significantly enhance and improve” its grocery business, which employs more than 2.5 million people worldwide.
“In order to achieve these goals, we need to provide customers with greater choice and convenience,” said David B. Siegel, chief executive officer of Wegmann.
“We have been able to do this by offering a wide variety of products and services to meet customer needs.”
The move is expected to result in higher sales in the future, but wegmans said it doesn’t expect it to be enough to offset the loss of the paper towels.
“Wegman’s decision will result in reduced demand for paper towel sales, lower store profits and higher losses in the coming years, as consumers continue to turn away from paper towels,” said Wegmen President and CEO Paul F. Coughlin.
“This will have a profound impact on the business of Wegerman, which relies on our customer loyalty to provide an important source of income.
We also recognize the importance of ensuring that our customers can find the most convenient options for their shopping needs.”
While wegman has not yet announced plans for the end-of-the-year holiday season, customers can sign up for free paper towels delivery at their Wegmens locations on Nov. 2 and Nov. 4.
